Yesterday was a great game for the Red Sox. Being able to win a good pitching match up and not being able to see Peavy on his best day and Beckett getting his 11th win. The offense really came through and having Tek hit that homerun in Petco Park, woot!
Well the news that's been everywhere of late is the passing of former pitcher Rod Beck. I remembered him scaring me because well I was 11 and seeing him just wasnt my thing. The important thing is that he had a family, with 2 girls younger than me and a wife. Some players had VERY sad reactions with Wake's being the saddest. Here is it, per Boston Globe.
"I was absolutely floored when I heard the news," a visibly shaken Tim Wakefield said after the Sox' 4-2 win. "I've had a hard time dealing with it all day.
"He was one of my closest friends on the team at the time when he was here. We used to talk about the game and how to approach it. We used to help each other. When things were going bad he'd always be there for me, and I'd always try to be there for him if things went bad for him. Those years were difficult times for us here."
It's really sad to see the players so sad really. You're not supposed to be talking about someone dying, you're supposed to be talking about the game. He did have a lot of personal demons a little before he left the game. maybe his lifestyle had to do with his death. if so, this can be a leasson learned for everybody in baseball. i wish josh hancocks in a DUI way does.
